Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to determine the significant difference in improving students' reading comprehension taught without and with the Cornell Note-Taking. This type of research is quantitative research using a quasiexperimental research design. The population in this study was class X students from SMA Negeri 3 Pemalang, with a total of 287 students, and the sample used was 62 students.
The researcher used a test to collect data. The type of test used was multiple choice with recount text material. Researchers used IBM SPSS v.26 to analyze data acquisition, and the results of the analysis obtained were that there were significant differences between the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class obtained an average score of 61.03 on the pre-test and 76.52 on the post-test, which increased by 15.49 with using the Cornell Note-Taking. Meanwhile, the control class scored 54.32 in the pre-test and 67.87 in the posttest, an increase of 13.55 without any treatment. From the results of these data, the experimental class was proven to have a higher score. Meanwhile, through the ttest with Independent Samples, T-test sig. (2-tailed) shows 0.000 < 0.050, which means Ha is accepted while Ho is rejected. On the other hand, the results of the ttable test using a significance level of 5% (df = 31+31-2=60) so that the t-table found are -1.670/+1.670, the resulting t-test value is greater than the t-table (5.410 > 1.670) and the resulting p-value of 0.000 is smaller than the significance level of 0.050 so it can be said that the results of the research on the application of the Cornell Note-Taking are proven to be effective and can improve students' reading comprehension.
