This final project is based on a study that attempted to examine the use of the role-play method in
improving students' speaking ability. The main objective of the study was to find the students'
speaking scores before the use of the role-play method as well as the students' scores after the use
of the role-play method and how the differences in those.
This study started with students' speaking test before being given role play treatment (pre-test)
which was then recorded and assessed. Then at the next meeting, the researcher gave treatment in
the form of role play in the classroom as a learning method. At the next meeting, students were
again given a speaking test after treatment (post-test) which was then recorded and assessed.
The results showed that the students' speaking scores increased significantly after the treatment in
the form of role-play. Teacher is suggested to be more creative in the process of learning to speak
in class. And students as expected to be more active in speaking English. The next researcher could
use this research as literature to guide them when they want to do similar research.
