Some students of SMKN 1 Pemalang still have difficulties in arranging some words when they produce a text. Interconnected with that, English Derivational and Inflectional Morphemes are huge, and it has a significant role in composing words into a piece of text. So, this research is aimed to (1) identify the derivational and inflectional morphemes found in students’ recount text; (2) find out types of English derivational and inflectional morphemes found in recount text made by first grade students of SMKN 1 Pemalang; (3) find out how many errors were found in implementing derivational and inflectional morphemes in the recount text. This research applied a descriptive qualitative approach. The instrument of the study was an assignment to write a recount text. Thus, the data source of this research comes from the recount texts that were made by the first-grade students of SMKN 1 Pemalang.
The result of the data showed that 22 words were indicated as the derivational morphemes and 35 words were indicated as inflectional morphemes. Those findings were categorized into the types of derivational and inflectional morphemes. In derivational morphemes, the researcher found derivational in noun to adjective (18%), verb to noun (27%), adjective to adverb (14%), verb to adjective (18%), and noun to noun (23%). Meanwhile, inflectional morphemes consist of inflectional in past tense (54,3%), plurals (42,9%), and inflectional in possessive (2,8%). In more detail, the researcher found students’ error of implementing derivational and inflectional morphemes in the recount text. As a result, there are 5 errors found in derivational morphemes which consists of each type, such as noun to verb (20%), noun to noun (20%), adjective to adverb (20%), verb to noun (20%), adjective to noun (20%). In more detail, errors of implementing inflectional morphemes, there are 33 which consists of past tense (72,8%), plurals (12,1%), and possessives (15,1%). After analyzing the result, it can be concluded the first-grade students of SMKN 1 Pemalang still have some errors in writing the derivational and inflectional morphemes. Thus, they need to learn more about the function and the context of certain words when they create a text.
