Abstract
The title of this final project is "The Use of Picture Series to Improve Students'
Reading Comprehension: A Case Study at 9th Grade of SMP N 1 Rowosari�Kendal" The objectives of the study are :1) To find out the implications of using
picture series media in improving reading comprehension of students' descriptive
texts in class, 2) To explain the benefits that students get in class related to the use
of picture series media to improve reading comprehension in descriptive texts. In
this study, researchers used a qualitative design. The qualitative method explains
the analysis of the data obtained through the description, where the data obtained is
analyzed and explained in the form of words. This analysis is supported by data
collected during the study. The subjects used were 30 grade 9E students. The
instruments used for data collection were pre-test, post-test, and questionnaires.
Following are the study's findings: The researcher distributes pre-test questions
before learning begins, then the researcher explains the descriptive text material in
detail, then instructs students in groups to assemble the generic structure of the text
descriptive text using the picture series that has been provided and after that, the
students are asked to read the text. Post-test questions are distributed after being
taught using the picture series, and questionnaires are distributed after the lesson is
over and the responses obtained have been collected. And the results obtained show
that the mean pre-test score is 63.67 and the post-test mean is 81.33. It is also
supported that picture series are very effective in being used and reveals that the
