Developing good writing skills is crucial for students, but it can be quite
challenging. This research focuses on improving students' ability to write
descriptive text and compares the effectiveness of using one instructional
technique versus two. The study involved 25 students from the VIII H class at
SMP Negeri 29 Semarang, using pre-tests and post-tests as research tools. The
control group received instruction using the brainstorming technique, while the
experimental group was taught with the brainstorming and webbing techniques.
The results showed a t-test value of 8.47, exceeding the t-table value of 2.069 at a
5% significance level. This outcome supports the acceptance of the alternative
hypothesis (Ha), indicating a significant difference in students' achievement in
writing descriptive text between those taught with the brainstorming with webbing
technique and those taught only with the brainstorming technique.
