Abstract

Nabila Kurnia Dewi. NPM 20110068, "The Relationship Between Self-
Confidence and Cheating Behavior of Class VIII Students of SMP Negeri 12
Semarang" Thesis. Guidance and Counseling Study Program. Faculty of
Education, PGRI Semarang University. 2024. Supervisor I Dr. Heri Saptadi

Research on the relationship between self-confidence and cheating
behavior is motivated by students' lack of confidence in their own abilities,
laziness, and time pressure when doing assignments or exams. In situations like
this, students tend to look for quick ways to reduce academic pressure, such as
cheating. Cheating behavior is done by glancing at friends' answers, copying
friends' answers, and talking in whispers with friends.
This study aims to determine the relationship between self-confidence and
cheating behavior of students in class VIII SMP Negeri 12 Semarang. This study
used a quantitative method of correlational type, with a population of 238
students. This study used 127 samples, with proportional random sampling
technique.
The results of hypothesis testing using Product Moment correlation are
known at sig. (2-tailed) obtained 0.000 <0.05 which indicates that there is a
significant relationship between self-confidence and student cheating behavior. It
is known that the correlation coefficient (r) value is -0.613, which shows a
negative level. According to the guidelines for correlation interpretation values,
which are in the range "0.60-0.799" which means that the level of relationship
between self-confidence and cheating behavior is in the strong category. Then the
amount of contribution of self-confidence variables and cheating behavior
obtained is 37.57%.
Based on the results of this study, the advice that can be given is to reduce
students' cheating behavior by providing treatment by counseling teachers to
increase self-confidence.
