DEPARTMENT STUDENT AT AL-MERGIB UNIVERSITY” Thesis, English

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the barriers and challenges that students in
Al-Mergib University's English Language Department confront when seeking to
actively participate in the learning process. It also investigates the role of teachers who
face these challenges and proposes potential strategies to overcome them. To study the
root causes of the problem and suggest effective solutions, an applied research project
was carried out. To acquire a full knowledge of the situation, data was collected from
five teachers and ten English language students at Al-Mergib University. According to
the survey, teachers in Libyan classrooms use engaging teaching strategies such as
collaborative learning, error handling, and communication styles. Students, on the
other hand, have difficulty understanding lectures due to the fast speed and limited
vocabulary, which impedes their language and vocabulary growth. Furthermore, the
study discovered that teachers' attitudes on the role of overcoming these constraints
differed. Some teachers assigned the burden to the students, while others claimed it
was the teachers' fault. A communicative strategy was discovered to be preferable for
fostering an interactive classroom atmosphere. This thesis gives useful insights into the
variables that impede student participation in English language learning by exploring
these hurdles and challenges. The recommended solutions provide practical ways for
both students and teachers to improve language ability and enrich the learning
experience. This study adds to Al-Mergib University's continuous efforts to improve
English language teaching and can serve as a foundation for future research in the field.
