Abstract

An Al-MoSi 2 composite layer has been deposited on the surface of low carbon steel. The Al-MoSi 2
composite layer was tested for cyclic oxidation for 100 hours in an air environment. Each cycle, the
composite layer is in the muffle furnace for 20 hours. The effect of temperature in the cyclic oxidation
test on the oxidation behavior of the composite layer was studied based on the relationship of weight
gain to cyclicity and oxidation rate. The results of the cyclic oxidation test show that the Al-MoSi 2
composite layer can minimize the occurrence of oxidation on low carbon steel at temperatures of 600
and 700 °C. However, this does not apply to cyclic oxidation at a temperature of 800 °C, where cracks
and damage to the layer occur. Al-MoSi 2 coating. This means that the Al-MoSi 2 composite layer has
good oxidation resistance at temperatures of 600 and 700 °C.
