ENHANCING SPEAKING SKILLS THROUGH CHARADES APPLICATION: A STUDY IN GRADE 8 STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI 3 MRANGGEN IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024

This study investigated the use of the Charades Application to enhance students'
speaking skills. The research aimed to:1) to find out the speaking skills of students
who were taught without using Charades Application, 2) to find out the speaking
skills of students who were taught using Charades Application, 3) to find out the
significant difference in the speaking skills of the students between students who
were taught without using Charades Application and students who were taught
using Charades Application”. The researcher employed a quantitative approach,
utilizing a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test post-test control group design.
The study involved 64 eighth-grade students from SMP Negeri 3 Mranggen, divided
into experimental and control class. The research instrument was a speaking test
administered both before and after the treatment, with pre-test and post-test data
collection. The data were analyzed using an independent sample t-test. The mean
score of the pre-test was 54.38, while the mean score of the post-test was 81.00.
The result of independent sample t-test in control class and experimental class, a
showed that t-test result was 9.799, df was 62, and p-value or (Sig) 2-tailed was
.000 which was not greater than 0.05 level of significant. This indicates that the
Charades Application, as a teaching of media, significantly contributed to the
students' integrated performance in speaking skills.
