This final paper is attempted to examine “ Using Matching Games as Media in
Teaching Students Writing Skill of Descriptive Text: A Case of the Tenth Grade
of SMA N 16 Semarang in Academic Year 2019/2020”. The objectives of the
study were 1) To describe the implementation of matching game as media to
teaching writing skill in descriptive text, 2) To find out whether there is
significant difference between of students‟ writing ability of descriptive text. 3)
To know the strength and weakness of using matching game as media to
teaching writing skill in descriptive text.
The researcher used a quasi-experimental research with two groups. To obtain
the data, the researcher carried out some steps. They were tests, treatment, and
questionnaire sheet. The population of the study was the tenth grade of SMA N
16 Semarang in Academic year 2019/2020.
The result of the analysis shows that there is significant difference between the
students taught without using Matching Game as media and those taught using
Matching Game as media in writing descriptive text. It is shown by the mean
score of the experimental group is higher than the mean score of the control
group (82.06 > 47.94). in the other hand, based on t-table where 10.610 > 2.030
(on a level significance 5% df = 35). Thus, the hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
The result of questionnaire sheet shows that the strengths of Matching Game is
train the mind to be focussed and careful, easy to understand by the students,
makes learning descriptive text easier, and the weakness is spend a lot of time,
and if it‟s done by several groups, it will be less attractive.
From the result of this study, it can be stated that using Matching Game as media
had good responses from the students and it can improve the students writing
ability in descriptive text. Therefore, teachers could apply Matching Game as
media in teaching writing descriptive text.
