AN ANALYSIS OF PHRASAL VERBS IN THE SONG LYRICS OF TAYLOR SWIFT’S ALBUM : “REPUTATION” AS AN ALTERNATIVE SOURCE FOR TEACHING VOCABULARY

This research studies about the analysis Phrasal Verbs in the Song Lyrics of
Taylor Swift’s Album Entitled Reputation as an Alternative Source for Teaching
Vocabulary. The purpose of this research wants to know the types, the meaning,
and the contribution of phrasal verbs to vocabulary learning. In this final project the
researcher chose qualitative method to analyze phrasal verbs in fifteen songs. The
technique used to collect the data was documentation, that is in the form of song
lyrics by Taylor Swift’s album “Reputation”. The procedures of collecting data are
searching the song lyrics of Taylor Swift’s album entitled “Reputation”, reading
the song lyrics carefully, finding the phrasal verbs, finding the types of phrasal
verbs, and the appropriate meaning of phrasal verbs. The results of the this research
shows that there are fifteen songs on the Talyor Swift album ; there are many
phrasal verbs which have different meanings and types. There are 71 phrasal verbs
which are divided into three types : 10 transitive inseperable, 29 transitive
separable, and 32 intransitive inseparable. These album can be reference as learning
materials at junior and senior high school levels to improve the students
vocabularies.
