This final project is based on the research which attempted to improve students’
writing ability in writing descriptive text mastery of tenth grader students in SMA
N Bawang Batang. The objectives of the research were (1) To find out the
students’ writing ability in descriptive text of those who are taught without using
tourism brochure, (2) To find out the students’ writing ability in descriptive text of
those who are taught by using tourism brochure, (3) To find out whether or not
there is the significant difference of the students’ ability of writing descriptive text
between those who are taught with and without using tourism brochure. The
subject of the research was the tenth grade of SMA N Bawang, Batang. The
researcher took the sample in X MIPA 2 & X MIPA 3 as experimental class and
control class. Both experimental and control class consist of 35 students. The
researcher used a test as method of data collecting. The researcher processed them
by using statistical computation which was used to analyze the data from two
groups. The result of the research were there are significant difference between
the students who taught using tourism brochure and who taught without using
tourism brochure. It was shown from the result of the post-test. The mean score
for the post-test in experiment class was 80,42 which was higher than the mean
score of the pre-test 70,08. The enhancement of the students’ descriptive text is
also supported by the result of the t-test that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was
higher than the null hypothesis (Ho). Based on study finding, the tvalue was 8.47
while the ttable at significance of 5% was 1.995. It mean that the (Ha) hypothesis
was accepted if tvalue was higher than ttable. The result of tvalue in this study was
higher than ttable (8.47>1.995) Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was
accepted and tourism brochure was effective to be used as the media in the
teaching of descriptive text to improve students’ ability.
