THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT ON “THE TALE OF PRINCESS KAGUYA” MOVIE SCRIPT AND ITS FEASIBILITY AS A MATERIAL FOR DRAMA TEACHING

The objectives on the study of this final project are: 1) to find out the character
development of The Tale of Princess Kaguya Movie Script. 2) to find out the type
of character is mostly developed in The Tale of Princess Kaguya Movie Script. 3)
to identify the feasibility of the character development to be a material for drama
teaching. Library research is the method were used this research. There are
several steps concluded in this research. The first step is watching the movie
continually to makes sure the writer understand the contents of the movie. The
second step is reading the conversation on the script one by one. The third step is
identify sentences of the text on the script. The fourth step is elected the data that
relevant for the question on the research and the last step is reporting the data. The
results of the study show that there are three main characters on this movie script.
They are Sanuki Nomiya Tsukomaro, Ouna Tsukomaro, and Princess Kaguya.
Princess Kaguya is a beautiful girl, obedient to her parent, philanthropist and
sensitive nature. Sanuki Nomiya Tsukomaro is Princess Kaguya’s father who
raise Princess Kaguya with his wife. He is loving Princess Kaguya, but he is
irritable, selfish and never paying attention about Princess Kaguya feeling. Ouna
Tsukomaro is Tsukomaro’s Wife. She is patient, and merciful to Princess Kaguya.
The writer also gives more advice to the students to increasingly conceive the literary work
especially on movie. By using movie as material, it would be more interesting and easily to
figuring the meaning of phrases and to motivating the students on teaching drama.
