Arsyawan, RisyalArief. 2019. Enhancing Writing Skill In Descriptive Text By
Using Town Map At Seventh Grade Students Of Smp N 30 Semarang In Academic
Year 2019/2020. Advisor 1 : Dr. M. Wahyu W, M.Pd. Advisor 2 : Th.

The objectives of the research are (1) To find out the students’ writing ability in
descriptive text of those who are taught without using town map, (2) To find out
the students’ writing ability in descriptive text of those who are taught by using
town map, (3) To find out whether or not there is the significant difference of the
students’ ability of writing descriptive text between those who are taught with and
without using town map. The subject of the research is the seventh grade of SMP
N 30 Semarang. The researcher took the sample in 7H &7G. The sample use is
purposive sample with 7G as the experimental group and 7H as the control group.
The steps in finding objectives of research is first, the researcher take pre-test in
both classes. The result of the pre-test in both classes are almost equals. 7G as the
experimental class get the score 61 while the 7H as the control class get the score
58,3. Both class is still can not meet the average score given by SMP N 30
Semarang which is 75. Thus, the result of pre-test in both classes are categorized
as inadequate or unsatisfactory.Second, the researcher give treatment by using
town map. The treatment is only given to the experimental class. Third, after the
researcher give the treatment, the researcher take the post-test in both classes. The
result of the post-test have a huge difference between the control class and the
experimental class. The score of post-test in control class was 67,4. It is
categorized as adequate and have not met the standardized score in SMP N 30
Semarang. Meanwhile, the score of post-test in experimental class is 77,4 It is
categorized as Good and already met the standardized score given by SMP N 30
Semarang which is 75. Fourth, after finding the result pre-test and post-test, the
researcher calculates the t-test or tvalue. Based on reasearch finding, the tvalue was
9,70 while the ttable at significance of 5% is 2,04. It mean that the (Ha) hypothesis
was accepted if tvalue was higher than ttable. The result of tvalue in this research is
higher than ttable (9,70>2,04) Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted
and town map is effective to be used as the media in the teaching of descriptive
text to improve students’ ability.
