This study focused on analyzing story mapping elements found in John Green book “The
Fault in Our Stars”. The objectives of the research were; 1) to find out the organizers of story
mapping found in the novel “The fault in Our Stars”. 2) to find out the most dominant element of
story mapping found in the novel “The Fault in Our stars”. 3) to find out the contribution of this
novel “The Fault in Our Stars” in teaching reading. The researcher conducted qualitative
research that used documents of the book as the data. The result of the research showed that; 1)
there are many types of story mapping elements in every chapter in the novel. Within twenty five
chapters, there are 7 elements of story mapping, that is character settings (35), time settings (65),
place settings (59), problems (25), goals (25), actions (25), outcomes (25). 2) The most dominant
elements found in this novel was conducted to time settings, (65) settings. 3) The contribution of
this novel in teaching reading is teacher/lecturer can use novel as creative media to teaching
reading so the students will not be bored in doing the task given and the reading course
atmosphere will be more fun and attractive. Based on the results of this study, the researcher
suggests that the teachers can teach their students with novel “The Fault in Our Stars” as
creative media to teaching reading, it can make the reading course more attractive, fun, and the
interaction between teacher and student’s will be more intense
