Teaching and learning process is one of activities that will help students to
develop their capability in academic field. Recount text is a genre of text that is
learned in University level. However, students usually face difficulties in writing
recount text because they have to use complex past tense for them. This study
aimed to analyze the organization, the content, the grammar, the vocabulary, and
the mechanics in the written recount text of English education department students
in Universitas PGRI Semarang. In addition, this study also investigated the
problems found in the written recount text of English education department
students of Universitas PGRI Semarang. The research design of this study was
qualitative research. For collecting the data, the writer collaborated with English
lecturer. The lecturer gave the result of students‟ writing. The students‟ ability to
write recount text could be seen from the skills to master the organization,
content, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. The writer found that the
organization, content, grammar, vocabulary and mechanics of English Education
Department students of Universitas PGRI Semarang were in good and very good
category to write recount text. On the other hand, the students still made some
errors in organization, content, grammar, vocabulary, and the mechanics in
different percentage. 40% students‟ recount texts got some errors in term of
grammar. Then, there were 24% students who made some content errors in their
recount texts. The organization error of students‟ recount text was 18%. The
mechanics error in students‟ recount texts was 12%. The less frequent problem of
students‟ recount texts was in vocabulary namely 6%. The writer suggests that the
students should learn more about grammar and organization. Thus, they need to
practice to increase their ability in writing especially recount text.
