Abstract
Puspitasari, Diah. 2021. Using Whatsapp Group to Improve Students’ Writing
Skill in Descriptive Text ( A Pre-Experimental Study at the Seventh Grade of SMP
Negeri 4 Satu Atap Sale Academic Year 2021/2022). Advisor I : Prof. Dr.

This research is pre-experimental research that aims to find out the extent of
students' writing skills before and after being taught using Whatsapp groups. In
addition, this study also finds out students' perceptions about the implementation
of Whatsapp groups. The research methodology is a quantitative approach
method. The sample of the study was 25 seventh-grade students from SMP N 4
Satu Atap Sale. The research instrument is a test, namely pre-test, and post-test.
The average result of the pre-test before being given treatment was 61.68 while
the result of the post-test after being given treatment was 79.63. The t-test result
was 14.73, the t-table value (5%; df=24) was 2.064. Thus, the t value is higher
than the critical value in the table (14.73 > 2.064). It can be concluded that there is
a significant difference between students' writing skills before and after being
taught using the Whatsapp group. On the other hand, the result of students'
perception about the implementation of the Whatsapp group is most of the
students agreed about the features and benefits resulting from the Whatsapp
group.
