The insertion of technology in English language teaching has been massively
implemented by the English teachers during the pandemic Covid-19. This massive
use of technology is also found during the assessment process. 1. To what extent
is the writing ability of students who are exposed to traditional formative
assessment? 2. To what extent is the writing performance of students who are
exposed to Quizizz as a technology-based assessment? 3. Is there a significant
difference in students' writing abilities between those who are exposed to
traditional formative assessments and those exposed with Quizizz as a
technology-based assessment? The design of this study is quasi-experimental. The
population of class VII students in SMP N 13 Semarang 2021/2022. The writer
takes two classes as a control class and an experimental class. The research
instrument is a test. There were two types of tests given, namely pre-test and post-
test. After collecting data, there are significant differences between the classes
taught using Quizizz as formative assessment and the classes taught using
traditional assessment. The results of the study are that there is a significant
difference in the ability of students to write the greeting card that are taught
traditional assessment and those taught Quizizz as a technology-based assessment.
That is evidenced by t-test testing whose value is higher than t-table. Therefore,
the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is that accepting students who are taught using the
Quizizz as a technology-based assessment is better than those using traditional
assessment. So, a positive hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Based on the results of the
study, teachers can use Quizizz as a technology-based assessment in the teaching
and learning process to improve their writing skills in making greeting card.
