Abstract
Vocabulary becomes an important aspect to learn because we can understand the
meaning of words, sentence and we can arrange sentences (spoken or written).
Improving students’ vocabularies need a media to help students memorize them.
The aim of this research is to know the effectiveness of Instagram Filter to
improve students’ vocabulary mastery. For this reason, teacher should prepare an
alternative media for learning process. In this case, Instagram becomes the biggest
social media that used by everyone. The media used in this research is based on
the Instagram filter as most students have an Instagram account and spend a lot of
time on it. This study used quasi experiment study using non-equivalent control
group design. This study design combines pre-test, treatment and post-test study
by carrying out a test on two group. The population of this study are the eleventh-
grade students of SMA N Donorojo Jepara in the academic year of 2021/2022.
The sample are two classes of the eleventh-grade students of SMAN Donorojo
Jepara. The first class is experimental group and the second class is control group.
The experimental group is from XI MIPA 2 and the control group is from XI
MIPA 4. The result of this research showed that the use of song succeeded
improving students’ vocabulary. The result of the test shows the mean score was
86,33 it was good category. The result of Normalized gain proves that the use of
Instagram Filter as the learning media is quite effective with the percentage 58.
72%.
