Abstract

This study examines the use of figures of speech in the Frozen II movie script,
aiming to uncover the types and frequency of these literary devices and their
impact on the film's narrative. The research addresses the problem of identifying
and categorizing figures of speech within a popular animated film, providing
insights into their role in enhancing meaning and emotional depth.
The primary objective of this research is to analyze the various types of figures of
speech present in the Frozen II movie script and to understand how they
contribute to the storytelling. By conducting a library research approach, the
researcher accessed and analyzed the film's script, identifying instances of simile,
metaphor, personification, hyperbole, litotes, metonymy, alliteration, irony, and
repetition.
The study employed a qualitative methodology, focusing on content analysis of
the movie script. Data collection involved identifying and categorizing sentences
that contain figures of speech, followed by an in-depth analysis of their
significance and message. Triangulation by theories was used to verify the data,
ensuring the reliability and accuracy of the findings.
The analysis revealed a total of 35 sentences containing figures of speech,
categorized into nine types: simile (8 instances), metaphor (4 instances),
personification (8 instances), hyperbole (2 instances), litotes (1 instance),
metonymy (1 instance), alliteration (2 instances), irony (1 instance), and repetition
(9 instances). The prevalence of these figures of speech indicates the film's effort
to strengthen the meaning of the words and convey deeper, often multiple,
meanings.
Based on these findings, the researcher suggests that educational institutions
incorporate literary learning materials, such as the Frozen II film, to enhance the
quality of education by utilizing its rich use of figures of speech. For readers and
future researchers, this study serves as a valuable reference for literary research
and encourages further exploration of literary devices in different forms of
analysis. In conclusion, this research contributes to the understanding of how
figures of speech are used in animated films to enhance narrative and emotional
impact, providing a foundation for future studies in literary analysis and
education.
