Procedure Text for the Eighth-Grade Students at SMP Negeri 2 Winong in

The objectives of the research were: (1) To find out the students’ achievement in
writing procedure text before being taught using the word mapping game, (2) to
find out the students' achievement in writing procedure text after being taught
using the word mapping game,(3) To find out whether there is a significant
difference between the students’ achievement in writing procedure text before and
after being taught using word mapping game. This research used quantitative
research with a pre-experimental design. The researcher gave pre-test, treatment,
and post-tests to the sample. The researcher took one class for the sample. The
result of the research showed that (1) The students' achievement in writing
procedure text before being taught using word mapping game was poor and very
poor. The mean of the pre-test showed it was 56.04, (2) the student's achievement
in writing procedure text after being taught using a word mapping game was
good. The mean of the post-test was 77.12, and (3) there was a significant
difference in the students' achievement in writing procedure text before and after
being taught using a word mapping game. It was also proved by the result of the t-
test that it was higher than the t-table. It was 12.435>2.343) it means that
hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the student's
scores were being taught using the word mapping game was higher than those of
the students who were not being taught using the word mapping game. It was
influential and effective to be used as a medium in teaching writing of procedure
text. Finally, this research suggests that English teachers use word mapping games
as a media to make the teaching-learning process more interesting so that the
students will be motivated to study writing
