This research is to find out the effect of discovery learning in listening class. The
research focus on the students 1
st semester of English Department. In this analysis
the authors used a one design pretest and posttest experiment. This research
focused on the discovery learning technic in listening skill found on the 1
st
semester of Uiversitas PGRI Semarang. The data in this research collected from
the pre-test and posttest, and it supported by the semi interview of the students
perception about the discovery learning technic in listening class. The researcher
conduct the listening class to get the data. The researcher planning, application,
and reporting in analyzing the data. The summarizes may be conclude based on
the mean result of pretest and posttest. it can be seen that the mean score of pretest
is 55.17 from the average 55.1667 and the mean score of posttest is 72.20 from
the average 72.20000. based on the result, it concludes that the use of discovery
learning is able to give greater contribution in teaching and learning listening skill.
The students perception of the use discovery learning technique in listening test.
The fell that the discovery learning technique give their listening test increase.
They have some opinion about their discovery learning in study listening.
―Because when I learning my vocab and my critical thinking was worked” one of
the statement that their listening skill are improved. They can learn a new thing.
And the discovery learning technique also help them to more critical thinking.
―Yes, Because we must listen carefully and thinking for the best answer” these
statement can give the perception of the use discovery learning.
