Abstract

The progress of the times in the modern era requires teachers to adjust to changes,
especially technology in learning. The use of technology in education plays an important
role in language assessment. Teachers need to know the effect of student achievement
and student perceptions in using tools in learning methods. This study aims to investigate
Short Animated Video as a teaching tool, especially for writing narrative texts. This study
uses a quasi-experimental design. According to the non-random sample group, the
experimental and control groups were determined. To test it, two similar target groups
were selected. To assess the effectiveness of Short Animated Video in teaching writing,
the researcher uses a quasi-experimental design. To start the process, the researcher gave
a pre-test to both the experimental and control classes. Short Animated Video is used as
a treatment or experiment by researchers in one class. The first finding reveals that
students' writing comprehension is taught using traditional methods. Researchers found
that students were not active during the learning process and felt that conventional
methods were monotonous. Meanwhile, students prefer to use visual and audio methods
for learning, which is one of several things that show the results of the experimental group
are more significant than the control group. Short Animated Video can be an alternative
method for teachers and students in teaching narrative text writing in learning classes,
especially if students feel that the traditional method is monotonous and has fewer
activities. Short Animated Video has characteristics that can increase students'
enthusiasm and creativity in learning English, especially writing comprehension.
