Abstract

Morphemes, the smallest units of meaning in a language, are classified into free and bound
morphemes, which are affixes and are further divided into prefixes, infixes, and suffixes. This type
of research methodology is descriptive and involves collecting data in the form of words, images,
or other non-numerical formats. The findings of the study are presented using data gathered
from sources such as interviews, field notes, quotes from documents, or digital communications.
The research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the topic under investigation,
rather than focusing on numerical data or statistical analysis. The research's conclusion is as
follows based on the analysis's findings and discussion: Incorrect use of derived morphemes by
Libyan students at the University of Al-Mergib Libya varies from student to student, including
omission, addition, incorrect ordering, and misformation of the prefix and suffix. Examples
include the erroneous "Noun to Noun" noun derivation, the omission of the "Adjective to
Adverb" noun derivation, the "Verb to Noun" noun derivation, the addition of the "Noun to
Adjective" noun derivation, and the "Noun to Adjective" noun derivation that is erroneous. The
study suggests some recommendations Educators should offer guidance and appraisal on
derivational morphemes, educate students on regulations, offer more practice, and motivate
students to scrutinize their written work. Regular reading and listening exercises, writing
practise, and grammatical rules and vocabulary should be studied to enhance language skills.
Collaboration between educators and learners is essential to nurture an affinity for the English
language.
