This research is based on a study that tried to examine the usefulness of
Webtoon application media in the reading comprehension of ninth grade students
atSMPN 2 Karangrayung Grobogan. The aim of this research is to determine the
difference in reading comprehension between students who are taught using the
Webtoon application and students who are not taught using the Webtoon
application.Researchers investigated whether Webtoon application media could be
an effectivemethod for students at SMPN 2 Karangrayung Grobogan. The aims of
the researchare (1) To investigate the understanding of students who were taught
using the Webtoon application, (2) To investigate the reading comprehension of
students who were not taught using the Webtoon application, (3) To find out
significant differences between students who were taught using and without using
the Webtoon application. In this research, the researchers used quantitative and
qualitative research design. 30 students from one class in class IXG at SMPN 2
Karangrayung Grobogan were used as research subjects. Pre-test, post-test and
questionnaire are data collection methods.
The results show that the pre-test score is higher than the post-test score. This
shows that there is a significant difference between students who are taught using
and without using the Webtoon application, namely that there is no increase in
theirreading comprehension. This data is also supported by students' statements in
answering questionnaire where students admitted that this Webtoon application
was not helpful enough to improve students' reading comprehension,
because students were too focused on looking at images rather than understanding
the text.
