Abstract

Indriyani, Muldiyati. 2023. Improving the Reading Comprehension by Using
Inquiry Method: A Case of Eight Grade Students at SMP N 37 SEMARANG.
Final project, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Language and Arts
Education, Universitas PGRI Semarang. Advisor I: Prof. Dr. Suwandi, M.Pd.
Advisor II: Ririn Ambarini, S.Pd., M.Hum.
Keywords: Reading, Reading Comprehension, Inquiry Method.
The major purpose of this research was to assess the efficacy of the Inquiry
approach in improving reading comprehension ability. To test, this study used a
quantitative and pre-experimental approach. The pre-experimental included two
tests: a pre-test at the start and a post-test following treatment. This study's
number of samples was 30 eighth-grade students. The findings revealed that posttest scores grew and surpassed pre-test values. The mean pre-test of students was
62.00, and the mean post-test score of students in experimental group was 78.00.
Furthermore, at a level of significance of 0.05%, the t-score is considered to be
less than the t-table. The Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, the Null
Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, based on this analysis. So, it can be concluded that
there is a significant difference between students’ reading comprehension taught
by using inquiry method.
