Make-A-Match model is one of cooperative learning in English classroom design
which supported to develop the learners’ engagement with the subject requirement;
descriptive text is one of text type which studied by the learners where this text
inquired them to deal with the matching activity. This study was conducted to reveal
the effectiveness of Make-A-Match as the medium model in learning descriptive
text for the students and encouragement of their motivation. This study employed a
qualitative design where the researcher showed numbers of phenomenon. The
setting of this research was students of 7th grade SMP Negeri 1 Karangawen where
the data was gained from the test; the test was distributed to different classes: both
control class and experiment class. The number of students were 23 entities; each
class was tested through pre-test and post-test to know the average of the test. The
research's findings revealed that the table shown by the graph showed that, on
average, the pre-test had a gain of 45% of 61, while the post-test using the MakeA-Match media had a gain of 55% of 75. The average score on the pre-test was
47% out of 87, while the average score on the post-test on using Make-A-Match
model was 53% out of 97. The conclusion of the research resulted that the MakeA-Match model which was employed to teach students how to write descriptive
texts was supportive since the use of that model could enhance the score of the test
done by the numbers of the students while the absence of its model influenced to
the students’ experiences in learning the text. The research suggestion in the issue
of the use of Make-A-Match model could be for students, teachers, and further
study where they are able to employ this model to support the learners’ interest or
motivation in learning English.
